Students Turn to Porn For Sex Education via Guardian Students

The majority of students view porn to find out about sex and don’t rate the sex and relationship education (SRE) they receive in schools highly, according to research by the National Union of Students (NUS).
The survey, published on Thursday, spoke to more than 2,500 school and university students in the UK and found 60% of respondents watch porn to get information about sex – despite almost 75% saying that it creates unrealistic expectations.
Of the students surveyed, 75% say the sex education at their school was not practical and rated it as either fair, poor, or terrible. On top of this, 50% say issues they need to know about are not covered in class.
Jane Lees, chair of the Sex Education Forum, says: “Consent and relationship safety are real issues affecting students and sadly they are leaving school with little or no discussion on these topics having taken place.”
Friends, school, and sexual partners were listed as the top three sources relied upon for information. However according to those surveyed, the topics covered in class were more biology based – with puberty, contraception, sexual health, and bodies and anatomy listed as the most commonly taught.
In contrast, consent was never touched upon for 75% of respondents, and relationships were covered for less than 50%. Under a fifth discussed LGBT issues and 75% felt the education they received was not diverse enough.
Jack Wallington, director of community at the Student Room, says: “These findings mirror the comments we hear from young people everyday – that the UK’s sex and relationships programmes are patchy, at best.
“Students regularly report a general lack of practical advice and inadequate or incorrect information about sexuality, contraception and STIs – leaving a black hole of unanswered questions that are filled by friends and websites.
“We’d like to see greater standardisation in sex and relationships education programmes, and ones which directly address the needs of young people, instead of leaving them to hunt for pieces of the puzzle themselves.”
The NUS and Sex Education Forum are calling for sex and relationship education to be statutory in schools. Of the survey respondents, 90% agree that it should be made compulsory.
Colum McGuire, vice president of NUS, says: “Sex and relationship education is failing millions. People are being left with gaps in their education and [this] puts young people at risk. I find it alarming that sexual partners are listed as a top SRE source. Consider this in light of the fact that consent was never raised for two thirds of respondents [and that] the current system almost completely ignores LGBT relationships.
“We urge all political parties to commit to statutory SRE in their general election manifestos, and to accept that simple biology just won’t cut it.”
Statutory status would allow SRE to be treated in the same way as other compulsory subjects, with teachers receiving training and time allocated in school timetables for teachers to address real-life issues with students, including respectful relationships, consent and LGBT issues.

$5.5 Million Richer! Riri Wins Court Battle with Topshop

In 2012 Rihanna brought a case against fashion retailer Topshop for using her picture on a shirt without her approval. Her lawyers argued that it was false advertising as it would make her fans buy the shirt thinking it was endorsed by Rihanna.
Well, today RiRi won the case against Topshop’s parent company Arcadia for £3.3million ($5.5million).
The high court found in favour of the Barbadian performer and granted an injunction prohibiting Topshop from selling the clothes without informing prospective purchasers that it had not been approved or authorized.

Ice Prince – I am Still An Upcoming Artiste

The rise of Ice Prince is somewhat meteoric; he went from being just a passionate music lover in Jos to an award winning rap artiste. In four years, Panshak Zamani has carved a niche for himself in the Nigerian rap music scene. The Aboki crooner, who won the 2013 LEADERSHIP Entertainer Of the Year award, is unarguably one of the hottest rappers in the industry, with two albums already in his kitty. The JOVAGO cum ETISALAT ambassador, in this chat with SAMUEL ABULUDE talks about his music, non-governmental organisation and his best kept secret.

You won a BET award last year, how has it been like?
BET opened up a new platform for me. The interesting thing is that it was not aired in US alone; it was also aired in UK, Asia and Africa. As a result, I got to do stuff with a couple of US artistes. Off the BET awards, I did a song with French Montana, Wale and I also did a song with Chip from the UK. I did a song with Joel Ortiz. All these songs are in my Fire of Zamani album released last November. Winning the BET African Act award put me in some international festivals as well. At this year’s award I had the honour of performing live and presenting the award to the new winner which interestingly is Davido. All these have really put the Nigerian hiphop music on the global stage.

That makes you the hottest rapper currently, right?
(Smiles) I don’t see myself like that. I still see myself as an upcoming musician. I still see myself as having not arrived yet. It’s not even about humility. That is how a man should see himself. I don’t think as a human being you should ever get to a place that you believe you have arrived. That’s why I still see myself as upcoming. I don’t think Dangote thinks he is the richest African, that’s why he’s still making money. You shouldn’t believe that you have gotten there yet because that is way down- you get me? So there is still much more from Ice Prince. It’s like I haven’t even started.

How much work have you put into your music since you gained recognition?
I don’t sleep. That is the honest truth. I’m always working- especially at night. You met me on a weekend like this, normally there are a lot of boys here making music; I record every now and then. There is a studio downstairs. There are always artistes in the house. We are always recording. The more you do that the more you improve as an artiste and I’m always trying to improve on my music. I don’t club.
You hardly see me club unless it’s necessary. If it is someone’s birthday or I’m supposed to perform, that’s when you find me in a club. I”m a very reserved person.
So what has Ice Prince been up to recently?
Like I told you earlier, I’ve been making music. I’ve been trying to perfect my art as a musician; trying to learn more; trying to rap better; learning how to sing better and how to write songs. I’ve been shooting videos for my album as well. Just shot a video in South Africa. The song was produced by Don Jazzy and features AKA, a South African musician. I was in London recently and shot a video with Chipmunk, a UK artiste known now as Chip. I shot the video with him called Mercy. I just dropped Risky, a video featuring Sunny Neji. I’ve also been going on tours trying to put my Zamani foundation out there, an NGO aimed at caring for orphans. I’m an orphan- my parents are not around anymore. I want to help people in the society that don’t have a voice. To be honest with you, I don’t talk about it because I don’t blow my own trumpet. I’m not the kind of person that’ll donate to charity and start making noise. Apart from Zamani Foundation, I just came back from Jos. Every time I go back there I connect with the youths, organise concerts and seminars. I also just came back from recording a song people paying tax, for the Plateau State government. It has all the legends in it- Jeremiah Gyang, Panam Percy Paul, Adudeme, Dorcas Bentu and other indigenous artistes. These are some of the ways that we give back to society.

You just Dropped Can I Talk, what inspired it?
Can I Talk is a freestyle song, a free vibe. I just thought of putting out a hiphop song. I’ve been focusing a lot on trying to make people dance and excited. I’ve been dropping tracks like Aboki, VIP and Jambo- all club songs. So I wanted to do something different with a little bit of rapping, I had this track that me and my boy, TMXO did. So, I spoke to Joel Ortiz. He’s an artiste under Eminem’s outfit. He jumped on the beat and as soon as I heard his voice, I didn’t want to release it as an Ice Prince song. I drove to MI’s house straight and told my boss, MI to bless it. MI killed it and ripped it apart. So Can I Talk is free for download. People have been commenting about it. There is another one I dropped, Tears For Naija, which is a song about what it is going on in the country right now. It’s about changing our ways and gettimg this country back to the way it used to be in ‘97-’98. Short On Short is another freestyle song with Sarkodie. I went to Ghana and we shot the video.

Since releasing FOZ, how has the sale been?
FOZ is an 18 track album. It is doing well. I wouldn’t say it is selling more than my debut album. Everybody Loves Ice Prince sold quicker. The fans love Fire of Zamani and they feel that I took them by surprise. They didn’t expect the angle that I came with. In terms of sales, it’s a different thing and I think that is how the market is right now. If you look at all the albums dropped so far, it’s the same story, compared to those released last two years. Now most people want to download their favourite tracks on their phones and that’s it. It’s not just a FOZ album issue, it’s a trend across the globe. Jay Z has dropped an album, Wale has dropped an album, a lot of artistes have dropped albums, Kanye West has dropped an album but I have not even seen a hardcopy of it. It’s a global thing. Physical sales of musical works are being overshadowed by online downloads. Even the Alabas dey cry, dem no dey make money (The pirate market in Alaba are also bleeding because they are not making sales from musical CDs again). So now if a song is released you download it, folks also download the tracks of the album. But it doesn’t stop the album culture from thriving. You have to give people a body of work at the end of the day. I’ll definitely drop more albums. Whenever I’m inspired, I’ll drop an album. Right now, I have already a body of work to make two albums, just waiting for the right time. I’m working on my 3rd album and 4th one already. I record everyday so I’ve songs already for those. I even take my studio abroad sometimes when I travel. I pay for the fare of my music producers, engineers and we carry our systems along like we did in South Africa recently.

What are the details of your Universal Music License?
It is for the distribution of my song I Swear which I recorded with French Montana. It is a deal that Universal Music has the rights to distribute that music. When I made the song, it got recognition and the music company came into the picture and wanted to push it. We are releasing I Swear on the 27th of July. So they will promote it on radio, major TVs across the United Kingdom hopefully. I’m signed to Chocolate City and managed by S.O.M.E. Universal Music handles the I Swear song abroad.

How did you come about the name ‘Ice Prince?
Music found me when I got into secondary school. I loved hiphop and just wanted to explore and sing. But at a point in my life after secondary school, I met some folks whose lifestyle I admired as singers and I wanted to sing. Along the line rap came my way because I love the English language and starting working with rhymes. The name “Ice Prince” came in my SS2. Going to St Murumba College in Jos was great for me. I went to school one day wearing a DMX Ruff Ryder chain and it had blings on it. A new student who just came to my class started calling me ‘Ice’ because he didn’t know my real name; and so ‘Ice’ stuck. I added ‘Prince’ years later. Now I call my music ‘super cool cat music.’

Man Utd transfers: Real Madrid want to sign David de Gea for nothing - in 2016

Real Madrid are prepared to test Manchester United’s resolve over the future of David de Gea by waiting to sign the goalkeeper on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of next season.
De Gea has yet to commit to a new long-term contract at Old Trafford, despite entering the final 18 months of the deal he signed when arriving at United in an £18.3m transfer from Atletico Madrid in June 2011.

But while European champions Real have identified the 24-year-old as the long-term successor to Iker Casillas, manager Carlo Ancelotti is understood to be happy to retain Casillas and second-choice Keylor Navas as his goalkeeping options next season.
At 33, and with two years left to run on his Real contract, Casillas has returned to favour by reclaiming his position as Ancelotti’s first choice this season and, despite an admission earlier this week that he is keen to play in the United States before the end of his career, the Spain captain is determined to remain at the Bernabeu for at least one more year.
And Costa Rica international Navas, the penalty shoot-out hero of the Central American nation’s run to the World Cup quarter-finals in Brazil last summer, has impressed Ancelotti and his backroom team with his performances when called upon to deputise for Casillas this season.
Real’s readiness to be patient in their pursuit of De Gea is likely to pose a financial dilemma for United, however.
While manager Louis van Gaal and senior figures at Old Trafford insist they are relaxed over De Gea’s contractual situation, any failure to tie him down to a new contract before the start of the 2015-16 season would leave United exposed to the possibility of the Madrid-born goalkeeper signing a pre-contract agreement with a non-Premier League club from next January.
De Gea is understood to be happy in Manchester and prepared to remain in England, but the lure of Real and the prospect of returning to his home city, where his pop star girlfriend Edurne Garcia Almagro is based, is an appealing one.
With neither Bayern Munich nor Chelsea in the market for a new goalkeeper, Real believe they have a clear path to De Gea should the player choose to leave United.
But faced with the prospect of De Gea leaving Old Trafford on a free transfer in June 2016 should he reject offers of a new deal, United may be forced to consider selling the goalkeeper at the end of the season in order to capitalise on his value -- a move which could prompt Real to act this summer.
United, meanwhile, have been dealt a blow to their hopes of luring Gareth Bale from Real with the Wales winger insisting he is happy in Madrid and has no desire to move to Old Trafford.
Former United manager David Moyes made a late attempt to hijack Bale’s move from Tottenham to Real in the summer of 2013, and with the player having been booed by the Spanish club’s supporters in recent weeks, speculation of a renewed move by United has resurfaced.
But Bale has played down the prospect of leaving Real for United by claiming he is happy at the Bernabeu.
"I can't see myself at Manchester United," Bale told Spanish radio. "In an interview recently I was asked if I was happy in Madrid and I said that I was very happy here.
"I have a long contract still to go, I am enjoying myself and we are winning trophies. I want to continue doing this at Real Madrid.
"I feel the support of the Bernabeu. I am going to continue working to show what I am capable of doing on the pitch and so as to win more trophies."
Bale also dismissed suggestions of a fall-out with Real forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
"There is no rivalry between us,” Bale said. “We have meetings to talk about tactics.
“Normally if there is a free-kick from the left, Cristiano takes it and on the right it would be me. We get on well.”

The transfer window closes in

82yr old Broadway star Joel Grey comes out as gay

Actor Joel Grey, an Oscar winner for his role in "Cabaret" opposite Liza Minnelli and who was married to actress Jo Wilder for 24 years, on Wednesday publicly revealed that he is gay.

The 82-year-old actor, who is the father of actress Jennifer Grey and also has a son, told People magazine that his family and friends have known about his sexuality.
"I don't like labels," Grey is quoted as saying in the issue of the magazine to be published on Friday "but if you have to put a label on it, I'm a
gay man."

Grey discussed his childhood in Cleveland, Ohio, and hearing grownups speak about gay men being jailed for their sexuality. Grey said that at around the same time, he realized he was attracted to girls and boys.

Grey was the first to play the role of the Master of Ceremonies in the Broadway musical "Cabaret" in 1966 and won the Tony Award for the performance. He won an Academy Award for the 1972 film version.
Jennifer Grey, best known for her role in 1987's "Dirty Dancing" with Patrick Swayze, told People magazine that she was pleased her father felt comfortable and secure enough to publicly declare himself a gay man.
"Mostly because more people are free to own their true nature and can hopefully come closer to love and accept themselves as they really are, no matter what age, no matter how long it takes, to finally be free of the lies or half truths, it is freedom," she said.

Care For A Slimy Massage: Thailand's Snail Spa Where Gastropods 'Massage' Your Face With Their Mucus in $30 Acne-fighting facial

The 45-minute facial at Chiang Mai's Snail Spa sees six of the mollusks placed on the customer's face

The treatment is not painful, the reviewer describing a 'balmy coolness'. The snails took a particular liking to his nose as they are fond of climbing

The last time I encountered escargots they were served up by a French waiter, sizzling in garlic and herb butter. Now, one is slithering up the bridge of my nose while five others are being stuck onto other parts of my face by a Thai beautician, all secreting snail slime to hopefully smooth out some wrinkles and otherwise give me a younger-than-my-age look.
That this latest addition to the global beauty and wellness craze — snail facials — should surface in the hills of northern Thailand is only natural. This Southeast Asian country ranks among the world's top spa destinations, with massage treatments of every description offered around just about every corner. Other members of the animal kingdom are also enlisted, including fish at some 4,000 pedicure spas.

Merely another marketing ploy or an effective way to plump up skin in need of repair or rejuvenation? Expert opinions differ. The two young Thai women reclining next to me at Chiang Mai's Snail Spa sang the praises of helix aspera muller glycoconjugates, snail mucus for short.

And when I returned home, my wife described my face as 'different,' but declined to go into detail.
Appropriately, given the French passion for these gastropods, the spa was started last year by two Frenchmen who had imported 100 of them from home. The colony now boasts more than 30,000, munching on chemically free carrots, cabbage and aloe on a certified organic farm.
'We take care of the snails as if they were our family, our babies. You can see they look very good,' says Luc Champeyroux, one of the partners, gently applying one to his forearm. He does confess to eating escargots ('but not mine'), plans to breed some for the table and is currently experimenting to produce 'the perfect snail caviar.'
A chosen few get plucked from the farm for duty at the spa, where I opted for the 45-minute Snail Spa Celebrity Course. For $30, it's a bargain compared to the $200 customers must shell out at Tokyo's Ci:z.Labo, a beauty salon where snail massage made its debut in 2013. Spas have also opened in China and London, and the French duo are expanding to Bangkok next month.
Given its novelty, Chiang Mai public health inspectors last month descended on the spa to determine whether the treatment was safe and if imported snails — officially classified as 'alien creatures' — might prove harmful to local species. Results of the investigation have not yet been released.

While the facials are new, concoctions made from snail mucus are said to date back to ancient Greece, when the great physician Hippocrates reportedly crushed snails and sour milk as a cure for skin inflammations. In recent times, the French have turned this essence of escargot into assorted creams and lotions.
The fluid, exuded by snails when under stress, is known to contain beneficial nutrients and antioxidants, but Bangkok-based Dr. Dissapong Panithaporn and other dermatologists say that there has been no significant scientific research on how these actually work when applied to the skin.
Champeyroux, a manager in France's nuclear power sector before falling in love with Chiang Mai some years ago, says his all-natural line of snail products, Coquille, acts against burns, acne, stretch marks, scars and aging. The two women next to me concurred.
Taksaphan Na Pohn, a 22-year-old recent university graduate, said she had earlier tried laser and other techno-treatments but after some research decided that 'natural therapy' was better. She said snails helped clear her acne when she was stressed during her studies.

'My face is firmer and softer,' she said. 'But you don't get immediate results. It shows gradually.'
Like for many, the prospect of having my face crawling with slimy hermaphrodites (snails are unisex) did not immediately appeal. Although from my own research I decided it might be preferable to another natural therapy — 'uguisu no fun,' or nightingale feces facial, which has been around in Japan for centuries.
So after being slathered with one of Champeyroux's creams, the beautician plopped down the first of half a dozen mollusks on my face. A balmy coolness I sensed as they proceeded to slide over my cheeks, furrow through my eyebrows and tickle my lips, taking particular liking to my nose since snails are fond of climbing.
Opening my eyes, I got a macro lens view of one critter perched on my nose tip. Its twin, antennae-like feelers were weaving about, possibly seeking an escape route with its tiny eyes. The snail's 14,000 microscopic teeth produced a slight, not unpleasant, scratching when it slid toward my nostrils.
So if truth be told, I sort of missed my harmless, sensuous sextet when they were dislodged, clinging to my skin with a gentle suction.
Maybe I won't eat another escargot again.

NEWS: Microsoft gives away more Office software to attract mobile users

Microsoft Corp made its popular Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications available for free on Android tablets on Thursday, marking the latest step in its drive to get as many mobile customers as possible using its software.
It also released an app for its popular Outlook email programme to run on Apple Inc's iPhone and iPad, hoping to attract the millions of users familiar with Outlook from their work desktops.
The new releases are the latest gambits in Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella's attempt to wrest back the initiative in the battle for mobile users, where Microsoft has fallen behind Apple and Google Inc.
Nadella broke with decades of tradition last March by releasing a free, touch-friendly version of Office for Apple's iPad, before such software was even available for Microsoft's Windows devices.
By giving away its industry-standard Office apps on Apple's popular iOS and Google's Android operating systems, Microsoft is looking to build up a base of users which it can later persuade to sign up for Office 365, the full, Internet-based version of Office starting at $7 a month for personal users.
Microsoft has been offering test versions of the Office apps on Android for almost three months, but Thursday marks the first day they are available as finished products from the online Google Play app store.
Word, Excel and PowerPoint, the key elements of Microsoft's top-selling Office suite of applications, have been a hit on Apple's mobile devices, with 80 million downloads since last March, according to Microsoft.
Microsoft plans to release new, touch-friendly versions of its Office apps for Windows devices later this year when it releases the Windows 10 operating system.
The new Outlook app, based on a popular app made by Acompli, which Microsoft bought in December, will allow iPhone and iPad users much easier ways of linking email to calendars and working with file attachments. Microsoft is also releasing a test version of the Outlook app for Android users.

Lmao: Kwaw Kese Tho

This is not to make fun of Kwaw Kese or anything like that. Its just that this post got me laughing and I was hoping it would make you guys laugh as well. This was an interesting convo that occurred on social media (twitter) yesterday after the Black Stars of Ghana came back o beat the Bafana Bafana of South Africa to guarantee qualification in the ongoing African Cup of Nations. I am glad that he has finally turned away from smoking. I personally don't advice smoking, no matter the substance being smoked. Its health implications far outweigh the momentary joy you feel when smoking.
